The Sun Room, located near the southeast corner of Pueblo Bonito in Chaco Culture National Historical Park, is an example of an Ancestral Puebloan calendar room. The room could be used to keep the calendar for a two month period centered on the winter solstice. At winter solstice sunrise, sunlight entering through a corner doorway illuminated a niche in the opposite side of the room. In these time-lapse sequences the nearly-full moon was photographed in the doorway in the same position as the winter solstice sun. |
