Fajada Butte is the most prominent geological feature of Chaco Canyon. Near its summit is the Sun Dagger, an Ancestral Puebloan calendar, which was designed to channel sunlight past three rock slabs to form a sunlit dagger or daggers on a spiral. It marked both the solstices and equinoxes at noon. The Sun Dagger is located in Chaco Culture National Historical Park near Nageezi, New Mexico. |
